Monkeypox outbreak 2022

Introduction

The monkeypox virus was first discovered in 1958 in monkeys in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was named after the appearance of its lesions, which resemble those seen in smallpox. Since then, monkeypox outbreaks have been reported in many parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. In humans, monkeypox causes fever, headache, muscle aches, and painful skin sores.

After Kovid-19, now the cases of monkeypox are increasing in the world. The World Health Organization has also declared a global health emergency in view of this. But in the midst of all this information has come to the fore that a Denmark company Bavarian Nordic has made monkeypox vaccine. However, no information is available about its Efficiency data yet. But this vaccine has been approved in the European Union. After this, the discussion about this vaccine has intensified all over the world.

What are monkeypox symptoms?

Monkeypox symptoms may appear anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. These symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, backache, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash. The rash appears about 5-10 days after the onset of symptoms. It starts out as red spots on the face, arms, legs, feet, and hands. As the rash spreads, it becomes raised and scaly. The rash lasts 1-3 weeks.

How does it spread?

Monkeypox is highly contagious and spreads easily between people.

1. Direct contact between sick animals and humans

2. Inhalation of contaminated droplets from coughing or sneezing

3. Person-to-person transmission

4. Passed through contaminated needles or syringes

Human-to-human transmission of monkeypox occurs when people who have had monkeypox disease touch their eyes, nose or mouth after recovering (and before they develop immunity). People may then become infected if they are not immune.

If you do get sick, wear protective clothing and cover your mouth and nose while taking care of your pet.

Vaccinations recommended for monkeypox

Monkeypox vaccine should only be given to those individuals who are at high risk for contracting the disease. Because the vaccination can work even after someone has been exposed, the C.D.C. recommends that people get vaccinated within four days of being exposed for the best chance of preventing monkeypox. You can get the immunization by making an appointment with your local or state health department.

Jynneos is the most often used treatment for monkeypox. It consists of two dosages separated by four weeks. However, due to its limited supply and regulation by the federal government, it is not generally available to the general people.

Monkeypox vaccination

Additionally, healthcare workers who treat patients with suspected or confirmed monkeypox should receive the vaccine before treating the patient and again six months later. Individuals who travel to countries where monkeypox is endemic should receive the vaccine before traveling, as well as travelers returning home from foreign destinations.
